Edita in Finland started in 1859 as the printer favoured by the emperor and has since then been owned by the Finnish state. Edita Plc is one of the oldest graphical companies in Finland. During the First World War about 200 people worked in the printing house, in the 60s closer to 500 people worked in the company, today we are closer to 1400 employees within the Group.
The market had a steady development, during the 60s, 70s and 80s. After a low economic activity under the 90s there was a strong growth in the market and Edita acquired several companies. During the 21st century the digital era was in full bloom and Edita dove into the world of digital publication and web communication and also broadened the organization to Sweden.
In Sweden, Edita is a relatively young Group of five companies, some of which have a very long history. Nordsteds Tryckeri, a company that is nowadays part of Edita Västra Aros, has roots that go all the way back to 1823. We have been operating in Sweden since 2001, when the Finnish Group bought parts of the Graphicum Group and created Edita in Sweden.
During the middle of the 21st century a restructuring of the organization took place, some companies were merged and others were phased out. The last few years several new acquisitions have been made, amongst others Edita acquired parts of the software development company BrandSystems and in the beginning of 2008 Edita Västra Aros acquired Arkpressen and in the middle of 2008. In the middel of 2008 the Citat Group with Citat, JG Communication and Mods, was aquired.
