Edita’s profitability remained at a favorable level

In recent years, Edita has undergone a considerable transformation. Business operations have been successfully developed to meet the requirements of the digital era. In 2010 the pace of digitalization was even faster, leading to more extensive structural changes in the Group companies. These changes were carried out in a cost-effective way, and the Group’s profits remained at a favorable level. Net revenue was EUR 110.3 million, which is only EUR 0.6 million less than in 2009. Operating profit was EUR 2.7 million, which is EUR 1.0 million less than in the preceding year. The operating profit includes adjustment measures for EUR 2.4 million.

“The strongly increasing demand for digital communications services has challenged Edita Group companies to develop their business and offerings. This development work has required major structural changes, of which the largest were carried out in 2010. Throughout this time of change, Edita’s profitability has remained at a favorable level,” says Timo Lepistö, CEO of Edita Plc.

Digitalization of communications steers development

In the Group companies that are specialized in marketing and communications, the increasing demand for digital services has led to extensive structural changes. “We have reduced the resources used for traditional printed communication such as customer magazines, but we have also recruited several new people for online communication planning,” says Lepistö.

In the Group’s publishing company, the digitalization of communication was reflected in the growth of demand for online-based information services. “ This trend has also encouraged us to reflect on the role of books and to consider publishing different types of material online in addition to or instead of publishing traditional printed books,” says Lepistö.

“The Group’s printing business has become more specialized in digitally supported printing services, and it is developing a service model for marketing communication that is based on online communication and systems for managing communications materials, direct marketing services and digital printing production,” says Lepistö.

Approximately half of Edita Group’s business operations are in Finland and half in Sweden. In 2010, the Group consisted of the parent company Edita Plc and its subsidiaries operating in four business areas:

Marketing Services: Citat AB, Mods Graphic Studio AB and associate company Brand Systems AB in Sweden; Morning Digital Design Oy and Citat Finland Oy in Finland; and Citat Ukraine LLC in Ukraine.

Editorial Communication: JG Communication AB in Sweden and Edita Press Oy in Finland.

Print & Distribution: Edita Prima Oy in Finland; Edita Västra Aros AB and associate company Edita Bobergs AB in Sweden.

Publishing: Edita Publishing Oy in Finland.
