Edita in Sweden have signed up to the UN Global Compact's ten principles of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), undertaking to pursue improvements in human rights, labour conditions, environment impact and to combat corruption.

This was recognized in a ceremony in which the UN program director for climate initiative Caring for Climate, Claude Furster oversaw the signing by 21 Swedish climate neutral company. Edita is thus in the group of role models companies for the UN's climate model.

“We have thought through what this commitment would mean for us before we took the plunge and feel that we are willing and able to meet the requirements. We've already dealt with a lot of environmental issues by becoming Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified, Climate Neutral, Swan-licensed and ISO 14001 certified. We would like to broaden our engagement and increase our accountability. We have now done this by joining the Global Compact - Caring for Climate Initiative”, says Anna Lindblom, quality and environmental manager at Edita Västra Aros

The commitment covers not only Edita in Sweden but also its entire production chain including customers and suppliers. An important part of the principles of the Global Compact is to communicate, both internally and to clients and stakeholders, the importance of the principles and what is being done or planned on how best to live up to them.

Edita Sweden is already working to encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally-friendly technologies. The Green Edita program aims to limit the company’s environmental impact and help clients to do the same. Signing the Global Compact initiative means the scope broadens to include the supply chain, both how and where materials are produced.

“When you are a customer of Edita you can feel secure that the company is helping to minimize its environmental impact and the entire production chain is in line with the principles in the UN Global Compact," says Anna Lindblom.
